Blu-ray vs HD DVD format war commences in Home Cinema Choice

Split run covers as home entertainment bible marks dawn of high definition battle

Split run covers as home entertainment bible marks dawn of high definition battle 31/01/06 – With two new formats preparing to battle it out to replace DVD, Future’s Home Cinema Choice gets to grips with the opposing Blu-ray and HD DVD standards in a special issue later this month – even giving enthusiasts the chance to choose their allegiance.

Whether you support Sony’s Blu-ray or Toshiba’s HD DVD – Home Cinema Choice’s monthly 27,000 print run is split equally with a special cover devoted to each of the emerging formats. Inside, the magazine gets to grips with the biggest format war since VHS fought Betamax back in the 1980s. Whilst both systems will offer eye-watering high definition visuals and amazing interactivity over current DVDs, industry watchers are predicting a bloody battle – with one eventual winner.

Casting an impartial eye over both formats, Home Cinema Choice fairly weighs up the pros and cons of both the Blu-ray and HD DVD standards in a seven page feature devoted to the impending fight. Revealing the key differences between the platforms, the magazine also goes exclusively behind the scenes – getting the word from both sides, each hoping to shape the home entertainment market for years to come.

Steve May is Senior Editor of Home Cinema Choice:

“‘The battle to replace DVD with a high definition alternative will be the most exciting development in home entertainment this year. The technology is amazing but choosing between these rivals is not going to be easy – which is where a magazine like Home Cinema Choice comes in. Our experts know exactly what is happening and can give detailed advice that everyone can understand!’

Also in the March issue, Home Cinema Choice tests and reviews the world’s biggest commercially available plasma TV – the whopping 65 inch set from Panasonic, alongside an advanced DVD player that sells for £230 and can play high definition material from the internet.

The March issue of Home Cinema Choice goes on sale Thursday, February 16th, with a cover price of £3.99
