MacFormat’s future iMac takes the web by storm

Design concept for respected UK Mac magazine makes international waves

Design concept for respected UK Mac magazine makes international waves28/07/06– A graphic designer’s concept visualisation for the Apple iMac of the future has taken the world by storm – following its appearance in the influential UK computing title, MacFormat.

Adam Benton, a UK designer, was commissioned by Future’s MacFormat to create a mock-up of the next-generation Apple iMac, with a forward-looking design based around the US computing giant’s current design trends.

Adam’s iMac features a 30” ultra-thin LCD screen, based on currently available technology which enables it to go totally transparent when the iMac is not in use. Completely wireless, the keyboard is also transparent and low profile, with a curved economic design and light sensitive illuminated keys.

Whilst his design combines guesswork and educated fantasy it hasn’t stopped technology websites and magazines across the world from the US to Russia and China to France requesting to use his images. The concept design also prompted debate and praise from blogs around the globe, including the recently launched MacFormat blog – www.macformat.co.uk.

Graham Barlow is Editor of MacFormat:

“Adam did a cracking job in helping MacFormat visualise what the next iMac could really look like. His work has really caught the imagination of Mac fans across the globe, enthusiasts who are already speculating what brave direction Apple’s designers could go with their next-generation of computing kit.

“Since we printed these mock ups a month ago they have gained a life of their own and have travelled all over the net – to the extent we are now receiving requests from foreign technology and computing magazines who want to publish them. Judging by the reaction from enthusiasts and the industry alike, our next-gen iMac would take the world by storm.”
