John Stevenson takes the saddle for leading cycling portfolio
Future – the special-interest media group and the world’s leading cycling media group has announced the appointment of John Stevenson in the new role of Editor-in-Chief of the portfolio of cycling magazines and websites.
John moves from his role as Australia-based international editor on www.BikeRadar.com and will relocate to Bath in 2009 to take up the new position, which officially starts March 1.
John has over 20 years’ experience in the bike market, starting his career as a freelancer for Mountain Biking UK almost from its inception, joining Future in the early 90s before departing for sunnier climes in late 1994.
In Sydney, John was editor of Cycling World and Australian Mountain Bike magazines, ran a trade magazine for the computer games industry, launched PC Active mag and then moved on line with a six-year stint on Cyclingnews, which Future acquired in July 2007.
Working closely with Cycling Group Publisher Katherine Raderecht, John will help to develop the market-leading publications and websites in the cycling sector, ensuring that Future retains the powerful leading position in the market.
John Stevenson said:
“I’m incredibly excited to be returning to the UK to take up my dream job. At Future, we create excellent cycling magazines, websites and events but we’ve lacked a specialist overall leader and mentor. I’m really looking forward to helping drive our growth in the sector.”
Simon Wear is Chief Operating Officer of Future UK:
“John has been a key driver in the growth and success of Future’s world leading cycling portfolio since returning in 2006. This new role recognises his importance in the efforts to further develop and strengthen our portfolio of magazines, websites and events globally. Whilst the media backdrop looks challenging in 2009, Future has ambitious plans for its cycling portfolio that John will spearhead editorially.”
