The UK’s biggest cycling festival to feature folding bikes, tandems and children’s cycling skills
Future – the special interest media group, has strengthened its forthcoming cycling festival, BikeRadar Live, with the support of more bike industry names.
BikeRadar Live is teaming up with a host of leading names for the UK’s biggest cycling festival, taking place on the weekend of 30–31 May 2009 at Donington Park in Leicestershire. The second round of partners are Islabikes, JD Cycles and Dahon, who will be joining the celebration of cycling.
In the spirit of getting the whole family cycling, Islabikes have teamed up with the UK’s leading cycle training company CycleActive to run a skills school at BikeRadar Live. The 20-minute sessions will cover all kinds of biking skills, and at the same time children will be able to try out some of the latest machines from the Islabikes range.
Islabikes’ designer and owner Isla Rowntree said:
“The Islabikes Children’s Skills School will give lots of kids the opportunity to receive quality tuition – it’s amazing what an hour with an expert can do for kids’ riding ability.
“The chance to borrow an Islabike will show them what a difference a decent bike can make too. We’re thrilled to be involved with BikeRadar Live – it promises to be a bumper weekend celebrating cycling.”
Tandem riders will be in for a treat as JD Cycles bring ‘Discover the World of Tandeming’ to the event, giving riders the chance to try the latest models from the likes of Dawes, Ventana and Santana. During four half-hour sessions people will be able to demo ride them on the Donington Park racing track.
Discover the World of Tandeming with JD Cycles will also give cyclists the chance to learn how to ride in captain and stoker positions, and expert tandem riding instructors will be on hand to guide novice riders.
Folding bikes have not been forgotten, and top company Dahon will be in action at BikeRadar Live with the Dahon Folding Bike Championship in a quest to find the fastest folding bike. A four-lap race with a challenge between each lap will see cyclists putting their folding skills to the test, and before each day’s race, there will be a chance to learn how to fold and unfold the bikes, as well as a shorter race for folder novices.
Grant Norris, Show Organiser for BikeRadar Live said:
“These three companies will really add an extra dimension to BikeRadar Live, not only with the cycling skills school for children, but also encompassing the ever-growing number of people commuting on folding bikes and families taking to the road on tandems.
“We’re delighted with the Islabikes Skills School, as encouraging children to ride better, smoother, safer and with greater confidence is really key to BikeRadar Live, as we equip the cyclists of the future with the skills that they need. We’re really excited to have signed up Islabikes, JD Cycles and Dahon, and look forward to seeing everyone getting involved.”
