Future’s Fast Bikes name their 2009 Sportsbike of the Year

Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade wins for the second year in a row

Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade wins for the second year in a row Future’s Fast Bikes magazine has named their 2009 Sportsbike of the Year test winner. After over 3,000 miles of flat-out testing on 10 of the best sportsbikes in the world, one bike emerged victorious – Honda’s CBR1000RR Fireblade.

Returning for an eighth year, Fast Bikes’ definitive Sportsbike of the Year shootout saw the team pushing the performance envelope during a three-day thrash on the roads of North Wales, and at the stunning Anglesey Circuit.

The ten-bike shootout tested the best sportsbikes on the planet, and for the first time in the history of the test, Fast Bikes were joined by Bridgestone as tyre partner – using their newly launched BT-003 RS as the control tyre; the perfect partner for this fast-road and track test.

Richard Newland, Editor of Fast Bikes said:

“Honda’s phenomenal Fireblade retains its 2008 title in virtually unchanged form, an incredible achievement in the face of stunning competition from the new Yamaha YZF-R1 and Suzuki’s GSX-R1000 in its own class alone. It’s an incredible achievement, and underlines what a devastatingly capable bike Honda have built.”

This is also the first year that there hasn’t been a Suzuki GSX-R in the top three, and the first year that a Triumph has been on the podium, with their Daytona 675 taking the third place. Yamaha’s new YZF-R1 filled the second step of the podium.

“The ‘Blade rules again, even against stifling competition” writes Fast Bike’s road tester and BSB racer, Al Fagan. “Why? Because it’s the best at everything, with a stunning mix of road and track talent.”

The issue also features the launch of Aprilia’s long-awaited RSV4, a definitive first test of Cagiva’s new SP525, and Ducati’s new Streetfighter, as well as a fascinating feature about reading tyre wear, plus much, much more.
