Pixies frontman Frank Black speaks exclusively to MusicRadar.com
21/07/09 – Frank Black of the legendary appears to have ruled out any new material from the iconic act in the near future, in an exclusive interview with musician’s website, MusicRadar.com.
In a 25 minute interview with MusicRadar’s US Editor Joe Bosso, Black Francis discusses the style and influences of the Pixies and their place in the alternative rock scene. When asked about rumoured plans for a new Pixies album, Black said:
“There isn’t really anything to report in that department. In terms of any new Pixies records, I’m in the dark.” When pushed, Black replied; “We’re active insofar as our old repertoire is concerned. We’re not active in terms of anything new.”
The news will upset fans eager for new material following recent comments from Black to the NME. The singer even went as far as dismissing the 2004 comeback and iTunes exclusive, Bam Thwok as a “little hiccup” rather than a signal for a full-time return:
“It was all ostensibly for a submission to a film which shall remain unnamed. I can’t make too much of a big deal out of it, I’m not John Lennon, I don’t play in the Beatles and just because we do one little hiccup doesn’t mean we have to hold a press conference.”
Black’s attitude to current music and showbiz culture comes up a few times during the interview, admitting he finds the habits of modern festival crowds confusing, as he believes the Pixies music is “not about the beach balls.”
With die-hard fans clambering to buy the $500 2-foot high limited edition Minotaur box set, Black admits he hasn’t seen a final version and simply states “it’s large…”
