Future’s Classic Rock unveils UK’s first-ever HD3D cover

Classic Rock 3D

Celebration of Pink Floyd continues Future’s trail of innovation

Classic Rock, the UK’s only growing music magazine by ABC, is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Pink Floyd’s seminal concept album, The Wall – with the UK’s first ever high definition 3D lenticular cover.

From Future, the special-interest media group, the cover of December’s Classic Rock magazine is an exclusively created Pink Floyd montage created in dazzling 3D – featuring much of the band’s iconic imagery, including the hammer, pyramid and flying pig.

Created with sophisticated new origination software and enhanced design techniques the cover was a three-way collaboration between Classic Rock’s Art Editor, Brad Merrett, Future’s pre-press team and Hive Associates 3D Studio.

Continuing the Pink Floyd celebration inside, Classic Rock documents the making of The Wall – the album that destroyed Pink Floyd. The 8-page feature also includes previously unseen behind-the-scenes photos from production of The Wall movie. Rounding off the Pink Floyd coverage, big name musicians talk exclusively to Classic Rock about their favourite Floyd songs.

Classic Rock also recalls the early years of Santana, thanks to the legendary Rolling Stone writer Ben Fong-Torres and also catches up with major artists including Bon Jovi, Deep Purple, Kiss, Slayer and loads more.

Chris Ingham, Group Publisher of Future’s rock music brands, Classic Rock and Metal Hammer, said:

“The 30th anniversary of The Wall is a major milestone in the history of Pink Floyd and the lives of our readers, so it was only right to celebrate with a cover as mind expanding as their music.

“The 3D cover is attention grabbing and continues our strategy of making an event issue out of the most important bands in our readers’ lives. As we move into 2010, we plan to continue our innovative streak as we grow and develop the Classic Rock and Metal Hammer brands beyond their traditional media space.”

The Pink Floyd cover continues a long flow of attention grabbing covers from Future’s rock music titles. In the last year, Metal Hammer has created an LED light-up cover for the recent Iron Maiden Flight 666 concert DVD and celebrated the return of Metallica with the world’s only metal magazine cover.

The December issue of Classic Rock goes on sale Wednesday, 11th November, with a coverprice of £4.99 – featuring the highly-collectable Pink Floyd cover.
