Future’s Total Film responds to demand with launch of new Blu-ray section

08/12/09 – Future’s movie bible, Total Film has responded to reader and commercial demand by significantly increasing its monthly coverage of Blu-ray – the next generation high-def format, with a new dedicated section.

Total Film introduces the ten-page BluRoom section to bolster Lounge, the magazine’s successful home entertainment guide in the issue on sale Thursday, 21st January. Total Film’s decision to introduce greatly strengthened Blu-ray coverage follows feedback from Total Film’s reader’s panel, who expressed a thirst for more information and expert guidance on the format and the releases available. The launch also follows film studio ambition to grow the format significantly in 2010.

Total Film’s BluRoom promises to appeal to both the early adopter who has already invested in the format, but also to film enthusiasts who are on the verge of buying a player, or are amongst the 74% of Sony PlayStation 3 owners in the UK who have yet to buy a Blu-ray movie.

The section will include news of the latest releases, and previews of forthcoming discs, whilst the reviews section will give reasons to buy on Blu-ray over DVD if applicable. BluRoom will utilise expertise from Future’s market-leading consumer electronics portfolio to answer reader’s enquiries about Blu-ray, covering the very latest technology to get the very best out of the format, from the players themselves, to the best tv’s, projectors, sound system and cables.

Sister website, TotalFilm.com will also increase its Blu-ray coverage with additional disc reviews, alongside trailers for new releases and the latest technology reviews.

Simon Maxwell, Group Publisher of Future’s Film & TV portfolio, said:

“The introduction of BluRoom is directly in response to the demands of Total Film’s readers and advertisers.  Our readers told us they wanted more guidance on the format and the latest discs before committing their money, whilst our clients said they needed a major film magazine to give more attention to this emerging format, set to grow even further in 2010.

“Unlike others, Future’s portfolio is well placed to deliver this Blu-ray sales message cross portfolio, as the only media group to offer film, games and technology audiences in print and online.”

Simon Heller, Campaign Director of the British Video Association’s Blu-ray Partners, added:

“The BVA welcomes this new initiative at a time when the industry has invested heavily in the Blu-ray format. We need to build upon this investment and communicate with the consumer the benefits that Blu-ray brings to the home entertainment experience”

The first BluRoom section runs within the March issue of Total Film, on sale Thursday, 21st January with a coverprice of £3.95
