Future’s Comic Heroes lifts off in March

24/02/10 – Comic Heroes, the latest magazine from Future – the special-interest media group, hits UK newsstands on Tuesday 16th March and will also be available from specialist retailers across the US and internationally from www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk/comicheroes .

The 132-page quarterly is a sister-title to SFX, Europe’s bestselling sci-fi and fantasy magazine.  Comic Heroes delivers everything fans need to know about the world of comics across graphic novels, movies, TV, videogames, merchandise and the comic books themselves.

The debut issue goes large on this summer’s blockbuster sequel Iron Man 2, delivering interviews with director Jon Favreau, and stars Robert Downey Jr, Don Cheadle and Scarlett Johansson.  Digging deeper, Comic Heroes recommends the ten essential stories from Marvel’s Iron Man comics and previews Sega’s Iron Man 2 videogame.   In the battle of the big 2010 superhero movies, Comic Heroes also gets the lowdown on the Nicolas Cage-starring Kick Ass, interviewing the cast and writer, Jane Goldman.

Covering the major comic book launches, Comic Heroes exclusively previews the latest issue of DC Comics’ ongoing Superman: Secret Origin series with a six-page teaser.  The magazine also delves deeper into DC’s expansive roster – offering a complete guide to the DC universe from Final Crisis to Blackest Night.

Offering guidance to aspiring writers and artists – leading figures from the industry tell enthusiasts how to get published in the first “Write Your Own Comics” feature – with top artists John Romita Jr and Guy Davis offering a unique insight into their work.

Inside the collectors’ packaging, Comic Heroes delivers some exclusive gifts from the biggest names in comics.  An A1 double-sided poster showcases Grant Morrison’s Batman & Robin, with American Vampire from Scott Snyder and Stephen King on the flipside, as well as special fridge magnets from 2000AD.  The first issue is completed with a mystery comic book from Marvel inside the packaging – which one will you get?

Jes Bickham, Editor of Comic Heroes, said:

“Comics and superheroes are everywhere these days, from the printed page to the big screen.  Whether you’ve collected every issue of X-Men or simply like the movies, you’ll find Comic Heroes an exciting, comprehensive and rewarding read.  Throw in some amazing gifts with every issue and we think we’ve got something special for you.”

Stuart Galbraith, Associate Publisher of Comic Heroes, added:

“The interest in superhero movies is at an all-time high and with a massive slate of new films in development it looks as though we are entering the decade of the superhero.  Fans across the world are hungry to find out more, so Comic Heroes will guide them through a vast universe of characters.”

Comic Heroes extends the Film & TV portfolio created by Future UK, which includes magazines, websites and live events, like February’s inaugural SFX Weekender – a convention experience which attracted 3000 sci-fi fans from across Europe to the Camber Sands Holiday Park, Sussex, UK.

Issue one of Comic Heroes goes on sale across the UK on Tuesday 16th March.  The magazine will also be available in the US from Borders, Barnes & Noble and by order from comic stores.  Comic Heroes also ships internationally from www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk/comicheroes
