15/04/10 – Future, the special-interest media group, are partnering with Sony to create the ultimate stereoscopic-3D (S-3D) film competition, as the manufacturer gears up to launch its new range of BRAVIA 3D TVs.
With Sony’s BRAVIA 3D TVs launching later in 2010, the new global contest sees the consumer electronics giant utilise Future’s market-leading 3D World magazine and website to promote its 3D animated film making competition.
Now open for submissions until Friday, 9th July 2010 – the contest gives both professional and amateur 3D film makers the chance to showcase their work at this year’s SIGGRAPH, the industry conference and exhibition on computer graphics and interactive techniques in Los Angeles. The winning film will also appear on Sony’s in-store 3D demo disc, showcasing the company’s BRAVIA 3D TVs around the world – with copies of the Blu-ray available to all purchasers, presenting their work to millions of Sony BRAVIA 3D TV purchasers.
Details about the competition appear in the latest issue of 3D World, on sale now – with content designed to educate readers about all aspects of S-3D film making with a 16-page section, featuring the rules of S-3D and top tips of using 3D to enhance a story and the pitfalls to avoid. The section ends with a detailed tutorial on how to create a stereoscopic camera rig in a range of popular 3D software applications.
To support the competition, a microsite – http://www.3dworldmag.com/sonycompetition has been launched, which features video tutorials, regular news updates from the 3D community, exclusive behind-the-scenes content from Sony experts. Interviews with enthusiasts at the cutting-edge of the medium, as well as the chance to see directors and film makers speak on their experiences with 3D.
Both Sony and Future’s 3D World will support the contest with regular social media updates, ensuring 3D film makers and fans alike are kept up to date with the latest news.
Nick Sharples, Sony Europe, said:
“By working with Future’s 3D World in print and online, we will be deploying a full range of technology advice, tips, mentoring and opportunities for entrants.”
Fiona Tully, Publisher of 3D World, added:
“3D World has been a core part of the 3D community for ten years and is the perfect partner for Sony in its quest to attract the very best stereoscopic 3D content. Our readers want to push the boundaries of what they can do with animation, motion graphics and visual effects, and are committed to improving their knowledge and skills to stay ahead of the curve. They will relish the chance to showcase their talent on a global stage.
