Future’s Metal Hammer celebrates return of Iron Maiden with collectors’ HD3D cover

Heavy metal bible continues run of “event covers” with exclusive art and mouse mat

22/07/10  – Metal Hammer, the UK’s bestselling heavy metal magazine, marks the return of the legendary Iron Maiden with their first studio album in four years, by celebrating with a stunning high definition 3D cover (HD3D) and officially-endorsed mouse mat.

As metal fans prepare for the release of Iron Maiden’s “The Final Frontier” album on Monday, 16th August and their headline appearance at Sonisphere festival, Metal Hammer’s highly-collectable HD3D cover exclusively recreates the album artwork in three dimensions.  With Eddie, Iron Maiden’s mascot depicted in blood splattered 3D, the cover is the result of a three-way creative collaboration between Metal Hammer, HD3D originators Hive Associates and Iron Maiden.

The Brit Award-winning metallers are the latest band to receive the special Metal Hammer “event cover” treatment – reserved for the biggest happenings in metal.  The Iron Maiden cover follows Metal Hammer’s gory “Blood Pack”, commemorating the 20th anniversary of Slayer’s landmark Reign in Blood album and the world’s only magazine cover struck from a metal sheet, for the launch of Metallica’s Death Magnetic.

Inside the September issue, the Metal Hammer team catches up with Iron Maiden in Texas, for an exclusive 8-page behind-the-scenes expose of their sold-out US tour.  The celebration continues with a “666% Official” Iron Maiden mouse mat, featuring album artwork from “The Final Frontier.”

Alexander Milas, Editor of Metal Hammer, said:

“If you’ve got a drop of metal in your veins, then you’ll know that Iron Maiden are nothing short of messianic, so what better way to herald their return to the scene?  We’re delighted to have worked with Iron Maiden and Hive to create a truly epic cover befitting one of the greatest bands of all time for the greatest fans of all time.”

Chris Ingham, Group Publisher of Classic Rock and Metal Hammer, added:

“Our Iron Maiden cover continues the grand tradition set by Metal Hammer for spectacular event covers, celebrating the biggest events in heavy metal.  Nothing comes close to topping the excitement of a new Maiden album in Hammer world.  Metal Hammer is proud to have worked with the Iron Maiden camp on delivering their first 3D cover.”

The September issue of Metal Hammer with the exclusive HD3D Iron Maiden cover and collectable “The Final Frontier” mouse mat goes on sale Wednesday, 28th July, with a cover price of £4.25
