Future’s Tap! to launch simultaneously on multiple platforms

Print, digital, online and paid-for app kick starts new iPhone and iPad title

12/10/10 – Future, the special-interest media group, has today revealed its latest launch -Tap! The iPhone and iPad Magazine, available simultaneously across multiple platforms in print, digital and online versions, alongside a paid-for iPhone app.

With over a quarter of a million apps now available for download from the App Store Tap! promises expert advice to guide enthusiasts to the very best apps, games and accessories for their device. Tap! will help both newcomers to the platform and pros to get the very most from their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – driven by Apple’s iOS platform.

Tap! is launched by the team behind Future’s market-leading Apple magazine, MacFormat, which has seen print sales increase by 25% in the last three years, to September 2010 driven by the popularity of Apple products.  In the same period, MacFormat has seen its subscriptions base increase by 67%.

Edited by Christopher Phin, Tap! centres around a high-quality 132-page iPad sized bi-monthly magazine, with a cover price of £5. A digital version of Tap! will be made available for the iPad and iPhone from the Zinio online store..

In addition, a database of app and game reviews will feature on http://www.tapmag.co.uk and through a new Tap! iPhone app, available from the App Store. Both the site and the app will further Tap!’s mission to help readers find the best apps and games, by filtering and curating the huge catalogue of titles flooding the App Store.

Christopher Phin, Editor of Tap! said:

“The iOS platform is as revolutionary, exciting and filled with promise as the original Macintosh or PC was last century. But it’s already hard to find the truly great apps and games from the tens of thousands on the App Store. We’ll do the hard work on readers’ behalf, and, through reviews, tutorials and more, help everyone’s iPhone, iPad or iPod touch reach its full potential!”

Stuart Anderton, Publishing Director of Future’s computing and consumer electronics portfolio, added:

“With iOS devices selling as fast as Apple can make them, and literally thousands of new apps being launched every month, this is the most vibrant and exciting – and confusing – area of technology today. The consumer needs an expert guide to find their way through the maelstrom of products and software – Tap! is that guide.”

The first issue of Tap! The iPhone and iPad Magazine goes on sale Thursday, 26th November with a coverprice of £5, alongside the website http://www.tapmag.co.uk.  Pricing for the digital edition for the iPad and the iPhone app are to be announced.
