Winners of Digital Camera Magazine’s Photographer of the Year 2010 announced

The winners of the annual Digital Camera Photographer of the Year competition have been announced, with an Australian photographer scooping the prestigious ‘Digital Camera Photographer of the Year’ crown for “Exit Wave” – a stunning underwater shot focusing on a body boarder.

See all of the winning and highly commended photographs now on www.PhotoRadar.com or using the Digital Camera Photographer of the Year iPad app.

The world’s largest online photography contest, the competition attracted more than 114,000 submissions from 123 countries with the winner taking a £10,000 prize. It took a panel of judges, including representatives from the Royal Photographic Society, Visit Britain, the Press Association, PhotoRadar and Digital Camera magazine to work through the thousands of images to draw up shortlists for each of the categories.

‘Exit Wave’, the overall winning image of an underwater shot focusing on a body boarding pushing through a wave, was taken in the Gold Coast by Australian photographer Jon Wright on a Canon 40D camera. Judges said “Jon has taken an often photographed subject and has expressed it with refreshing originality. The picture has great surreal qualities. He eloquently captured the drama and textural qualities of water, and caught the body-boarder in a magnificent moment of intensity.”
