Musicians have voted Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon the greatest album cover of all time in a poll conducted by leading musician’s website, MusicRadar.com.
With an impressive double entry in the top ten, Pink Floyd narrowly beat Nirvana’s iconic Nevermind album and The Beatles Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, which battled it out for second and third place respectively.
Sparked by a simple office debate, the team at MusicRadar decided to let their readers decide on the ultimate artwork design, with other shortlisted album covers including classics such as Rage Against the Machine’s self-titled album.
Also in the top ten were The Clash with their famous London Calling design and rock legends Iron Maiden with The Number Of The Beast album.

Will Groves, Editor of MusicRadar.com, said:
“The Dark Side Of The Moon is conclusive proof that one simple, enduring image is the winning formula when it comes to album artwork, particularly when it’s harnessed to such an iconic musical work. Any of the top ten would have been worthy winners but the Floyd cover is a welcome reminder of a time when sleeve art meant much more than a jpeg a couple of hundred pixels wide in your iTunes library”.
