26/05/11 Everyone from Dr Dre to Twitter is up for an award in “the Oscars of the gadget world” as T3 reveals its 2011 Gadget Awards today.
In the year of its must-have iPad 2 and eagerly anticipated iPhone 5, Apple leads the list with 20 nominations – but arch-rival Android is closer than ever before.
A new category for 2011, Tablet of the Year, recognises the single most exciting area in technology today – do any of the contenders have what it takes to see off the all-conquering iPad?
And the star-studded Tech Personality of the Year sees megastars like Lady Gaga and Dr Dre face off against Jamie Oliver, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and former winners Stephen Fry and The Gadget Show’s Suzi Perry.
Kieran Alger, Editor of T3.com says: “These are the world’s biggest gadget awards and this year promises to be the most fiercely fought contest yet. Apple’s dominance faces a serious challenge, particularly in the smartphone and tablet markets where other big brands have been bringing out better and better products to take on the might of the iPad and the iPhone.”
The full list of 205 nominations across 19 categories can be found at http://awards.t3.com/.
Voters have until 20 July to select their favourites – and suggest ‘wildcard’ additions to the list.
The winners will be revealed at the star-studded awards ceremony, taking place at Old Billingsgate, London on Monday 10 October 2011.
Last year’s T3 Gadget Awards was a phenomenal success, attracting over 750,000 votes. And, following 12 of the most exciting months in technology history, the 2011 T3 Gadget Awards looks set to break the one million votes mark and enjoy its biggest year yet.
