Future’s Tap! unlocks iPhone audience

12/03/12 Tap!, Future Publishing’s monthly digital interactive magazine for iPhone and iPad users, brings its high-quality coverage to a huge new market with the launch of a universal iPhone edition for sale through Apple Newsstand.

Already a pioneer of iPad publishing and the definitive guide to the newest and best iPhone and iPad apps, games and kit, Tap! boosts its potential Apple audience four-fold with the release of this standard, ‘flat’ version for iPhone and iPod touch users.

Also available in print and digital Zinio editions, the new iPhone-enabled Tap! is available by subscription or for £2.99 an issue, and as a free download for iPad subscribers, who also gain access to the last five issues on their smartphones.

The iPhone version of Tap! has been built using the bespoke FutureFolio platform which has powered Future to the forefront of interactive iPad publishing. A native interactive edition for iPhone is under construction and will follow later this year.

Ian Robson, publisher of Future’s technology portfolio, says: “Tap! is already the best and brightest digital and print magazine for iPad and iPhone users, and now it is available for the iPhone and iPod touch via Apple Newsstand. That gives us a far greater prominence and breadth of appeal, and it gives our current digital readers the flexibility of a true, multi-platform publication.”

Christopher Phin, editor of Tap!, says: “We’re proud that we’re creating truly native magazines for the iPad using Future’s bespoke, in-house platform. While we’re in the process of translating the same rich experiences to the iPhone and iPod touch, it’s great that we now have a stable Universal app that lets everyone with an iOS device access the great app, game and kit reviews in Tap!

Future is a world leader in tablet publishing and has over 65 digital editions available through Apple’s Newsstand for iPads and iPhones – more than any other publisher. We have seen more than 10 million downloads of our cost-free apps since then, generating 4.9 million opt-ins to receive our push messages and sales of over 430,000 digital magazines. 80% of downloads are outside the UK and over 90% are to new customers. Over 40% of all sales are subscriptions.
