THE METAL HAMMER GOLDEN GODS 2012
THE ONLY TRUE METAL AWARDS OF 2012
MONDAY 11TH JUNE, INDIGO2, LONDON
BILL BAILEY WINS ‘SPIRIT OF HAMMER’ AWARD AT THE 10TH ANNUAL METAL HAMMER GOLDEN GODS AWARDS
ANTHRAX TO CLOSE THE SHOW
11/06/12 Bill Bailey is one of Britain’s best-loved comedians. His whimsical rambling style has seen him play to hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. He has never looked to conform, and his unique and brilliantly obscure brand of comedy and music makes him a natural choice for 2012’s Spirit Of Hammer Award at the 10th annual Orange Amplification Presents The Metal Hammer Golden Gods In Association With Hobgoblin
Currently on his sell-out nationwide ‘Qualmpeddler’ tour, Bailey throughout his career has always encapsulated everything that Metal Hammer stands for and embodies the spirit of what it is to be ‘metal’, last year he headlined the Saturn Stage at the Sonisphere Festival!! Bill, who is consistently named in The Observer’s 50 Funniest Acts In British Comedy, and appeared seventh in Channel 4’s 100 Greatest Stand-Ups, says:
“I am really chuffed to be honoured by Metal Hammer and its readers in this way. It proves what I have always thought, that the spirit of Metal transcends the music.”
The awards will open with a full stage show from Watain. Undisputed pioneers of metal BioHazard along with Sweden’s finest metal exports Ghost and Sabaton, will be performing through the evening, with Anthrax – one of the ‘Big Four’ and arguably the most important and influential Thrash Metal bands of all time, will close the 2012 Metal Hammer Golden Gods.
There will also be live performances on the exclusive HMS Hammer from the evening’s host Chris Jericho and his band Fozzy, Grammy nominated Shadows Fall, Glaswegian thrashers Attica Rage, verge-of exploding British upstarts While She Sleeps, and the winners of Hobgoblin’s New Band search Evil Scarecrow.
Alexander Milas, editor of Metal Hammer, says “Anyone who’s ever seen Bill Bailey parody Slayer, or perhaps backstage at Mastodon or Opeth gigs, will know that his heart beats for the music we love. It’ll be an honour to have him down on such an already star-studded night, which I’m over the moon to say will end with none other than thrash-legends Anthrax taking the stage. As daddies of the scene that gave rise to the likes Metallica, they are living legends, and more importantly they still completely kick-ass live. Only the best for our readers who we’re throwing the party for in the first place.”
In the ten-year history of the Orange Amplification Presents The Metal Hammer Golden Gods In Association With Hobgoblin, the fans have been at the core of everything. The event is filled with true metal fans, the awards are perfectly tuned to what the core fanbase cares about, which is why a Golden God’s Gong is so sought after by the bands… they actually mean something!
