Future named top digital publisher for second year running at AOP Awards

FUTURE SCOOPS CONSUMER DIGITAL PUBLISHER AWARD TWICE IN A ROW – AN AOP FIRST!

ALSO WINS LAUNCH OF THE YEAR 2012 FOR APPLE NEWSSTAND DEVELOPMENT

20/07/12 Future, the international specialist media group and leading digital publisher, picked up the Consumer Digital Publisher of the Year Award for the second year running at last night’s Association of Online Publishers Awards – a first for any media owner.

In the most coveted awards of the digital publishing industry, Future was named Best Digital Publisher – Consumer against stiff competition including Mirror Online, Hearst Magazines and Guardian News & Media.

The judging panel said: “From its innovative approach to new launches, significant organic growth to reaching the tipping point where digital revenues offset those from print – Future is the deserving winner!”

And to complete the celebrations, Future also netted the prestigious Launch of the Year Award for its work making its portfolio of more than 65 products ready for Apple’s Newsstand’s launch last October. Future is among the most successful publishers worldwide on Apple’s Newsstand and has delivered in excess of £3m in revenues through the platform since Newsstand’s launch.

Newsstand has opened up a raft of new opportunities for Future’s specialist brands – 45% of our sales are subscriptions, 80% of our market is outside the UK and close to 90% of subscribers are new customers.

The judges said: “A bold investment, successfully working with Apple to deliver strong commercial results and highlighting a commitment to the future.”

The AOP Awards were judged by representatives of publishers, tech providers and suppliers to the media industry.

Future UK CEO Mark Wood says: “Winning Digital Publisher of the Year for the second year running is testament to the innovation in digital publishing for which Future is internationally regarded. We were up against some powerful media businesses for this coveted award and we can be proud that Future was seen by the judges to be setting the pace in the transition to a digital business.”

Last month Future also scooped two prizes at the prestigious PPA Awards, with T3 winning Digital Product Of The Year for their tablet edition, and International Consumer Magazine Of The Year. T3 is the biggest lifestyle magazine on Apple’s Newsstand.
