The aptly nicknamed ‘gore-fold’ extends to feature further photographs of the issue’s cover stars – the kings of black metal, Watain – while the flipside is taken over by the cult drink.
The format is a first for both Future Music and The Kraken. It’s a prime opportunity for the fast-growing spirit to increase its presence in a music category where it’s already enjoyed success.
The ongoing relationship between Metal Hammer and The Kraken has also extended to the magazine’s ‘Golden Gods’ Awards over the past two years.
Martin Ballantine, MD of Piracy Corporation, The Kraken’s PR agency, said: “The format looks fantastic and we’re delighted to be able to spread some more of The Kraken’s own black ink in this way.”
Alexander Milas, Editör of Metal Hammer, says: “Doing a triple-gate fold, sorry – gore-fold cover is a first for Metal Hammer and we are delighted with the results. Watain are stunning, both musically and visually, so it’s only right that we recognised them with a ground-breaking cover. Massive thanks to the Kraken team who’ve backed us to help make this a history-making issue. Their rum and our pages? It’s a marrrrriage made in heaven. Sorry.”

ABOUT THE KRAKEN
Named after a sea beast of myth and legend, The Kraken Rum is strong, rich, black and smooth. It’s a spiced Caribbean rum aged and enriched with exotic spices including cinnamon, ginger and clove. Its ominous colour and striking Victorian flagon-style bottle is a reminder of the beast that lends the rum its name – the two glass handles mimic the very eyes of the Kraken itself. Swirling the rum around a glass creates distinctive tentacle-like drips as the rich liquid seeps back to the depths. The thick, caramel-like, taste lingers long after the last sip.
